Bridge of Spies

The surprise Best Picture nominee for me, Bride of Spies not only brings Hanks at the top of his game, but Spielberg as well. Cold War dramas have always interested from me. It was always the most interesting thing to learn about in school (for me, at least). So, I am always interested in the films that come out that deal with the Cold War. And Bridge of Spies not only deals with the Cold War, but with the treatment of prisoners of "war", something that is still debated today. As a prisoner, Rylance gives an honestly stunning performance, capturing not only the commitment of an agent, but a person dedicated to their country as well. Tom Hanks, as usual, gives an amazing performance. He stole the show, as he normally does in all of his films. With him in front of the camera and Spielberg behind, it seems like anything can be possible with that duo. While Bridge of Spies surprised me to see it on the Best Picture ballot, I can say that it does deserve nominations, but just not for the Best Picture category. Although this is a phenomenal film, I feel that were were other films that could have taken it's place. But, that's just my opinion. But still, Bridge of Spies is a gripping film, with Hanks and Ryland giving fabulous performances that keep you glued to the screen, even with the running time being close to 2.5 hours.

Watched for Sebastian Koch and he only appeared in two scenes, totally forgettable movie 🤪

Cult of Personality 2023 (https://boxd.it/jw0oo) #38 of 52 | Mark Rylance (https://letterboxd.com/actor/mark-rylance/) The story is just a tad bit confusing at times and my god he needs to turn down the bloom, but otherwise this is typical Spielberg brilliance. Excellent performances all around and many beautiful shots thanks to Kaminski. Rylance was great as always, although personally I think there were some better choices for the Best Supporting Actor that year.
