Solo: A Star Wars Story

Between the two larger Star Wars films comes Solo: A Star Wars Story, more of a filler film for the fans to enjoy before they get to feast on the last film in the new trilogy. As we've all seen, fans certainly haven't been feasting, but have been viciously boycotting this film, as well as proposing a boycott on the next Star Wars film, since The Last Jedi took some turns that many fans felt were unsatisfactory. But as fans cry out that Disney is changing Star Wars too much and that they no longer care about the fans, they are missing out on one fun film. Solo is far from the best Star Wars film that has been released. But that doesn't mean that it's not a good time, since this film is an absolute riot. It's a surprise that fans aren't seeing this film, since it's the most fun that I've had watching a Star Wars film in a long time (mind you, the last time I had this good of a time was with Rogue One, just some food for thought). While Alden Ehrenreich may not have been the most convincing Han Solo, he still gave his all and made the film enjoyable. This character felt almost nothing like Han Solo, but I had to train myself to believe that it was him, but once I got used to it, I really was able to enjoy Ehrenreich's performance. Donald Glover really was the star here though, with his Lando Calrissian portrayal being the best of the film. Unlike Rogue One, Solo doesn't fix any plot holes, but manages to give a backstory to some of the series' most beloved characters. We all may not have asked for the backstory behind the meeting of Han Solo and Chewbacca, but I did have one fun time watching their meeting. Their first encounter is one of the most memorable of the film, being one of the more fun character introductions thus far. Solo: A Star Wars Story isn't the horrible film that many fans are making it out to be. It feels a little out of place within the Star Wars universe, but that may be because of the change in direction, since the beginning of the film does feel like a completely different film than the rest of it. Ron Howard may have had a mess to try to unscramble, but unscramble did he, since he really was able to make a mess of a film something enjoyable. Solo is another fun addition to the Star Wars universe and gives me just enough to last until we get Episode IX.

Solo: A Star Wars Story

Absolutely love this film. It's just a great high tension, low stakes, action film and that's all you need here! Alden Ehrenreich is perfectly cast as a young Han Solo. I know everyone on the internet wanted Anthony Ingruber because he looks/sounds like Harrison Ford but honestly you don't need that! You need the feel of the character and Alden brings it perfectly! Donald Glover is also great as Lando but it's more noticeable after my "Community" binge that he's trying hard to do a Billy Dee Williams accent My only issue with the movie is that it is far too muddy and ugly to look at. It's a very dark movie, it could do with a bit more exposure so that the (great) action sequences are easier to see visually. Outside of that, this is a fun Star Wars flick! I hope it eventually gets the sequel it deserves
