Rings
this movie really added nothing to the ring franchise. but wasn't as bad as I thought it would be based on the reviews. it was just lackluster.
Rings
I honestly forgot that this film existed, and really is the finale to my big horror movie crossover binge. Rings is a stand-alone feature, only connecting to the prior Ring films in the final sequences, which honestly works in the film’s favor, since it really could do whatever it wanted. That, unfortunately, alters the story of Samara (I still have no clue why they decided to move from Sadako to Samara.(Maybe to make it easier for audiences to digest over here?), but leaves some room for interesting sequences involving her. This film manages to create a decent atmosphere that is consistent throughout the film, and has characters that you genuinely care about, making it better than some other American adaptations that I have seen (I’m looking at you The Grudge 3). Overall, Rings isn’t the best that the franchise has to offer, but manages to create another interesting timeline for them to potentially go off of. Rings isn’t as bad as I remember it being, and I’m pretty satisfied with this finale to my binge.
Rings
After having remembered how good The Ring was, I was beyond excited last year when I heard that there was going to be another sequel. I hadn't seen The Ring 2 yet before seeing Rings, which may have been the biggest problem that I faced while watching this film. Despite how excited I was, there seemed to be a disconnect with the film, with a majority of the disconnect being because I wasn't sure of the mythology, as it had been a while since I had seen The Ring and I still hadn't seen The Ring 2, which may have explained some things that I still was not sure about. Rings follows the mythology of the first film, with a truly unforgettable opening sequence, due to the fact that it was both impressive and extremely cliched. It felt like it was something new for the series, but something that had been done before, seeming to be much like 7500. The rest of the film followed suit, with there being aspects that were really impressive, but others that seemed really recycled. The general plot of the film was interesting but seemed to drag during the middle of the film. The ending was unexpected, which feels fresh with a film that really wasn't terribly original. Altogether, Rings is an interesting film that furthers the mythology set in The Ring, but is not nearly as impressive as the first film.
