this movie felt like a 3 hour movie for me, it was so long! even tho the first and second part of the movie was fast and to the point. it was a good ending tho imo, even if some parts of it were unnecessary.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

What should’ve been an explosive bang for the Star Wars franchise, The Rise of Skywalker plays it far too safe, feeding into fanservice completely, leaving me wanting so much more. Rian Johnson had set up so much with The Last Jedi, which has become one of my favorite installations into the Star Wars franchise. The Rise of Skywalker seems to understand that Johnson did those things, but decides to do its own thing, leaving you wondering exactly why The Last Jedi was made, since it seems to be more of a continuation of The Force Awakens. The story is set up in a very similar fashion, becoming very cookie-cutter, and very predictable. While there were some shots that I was impressed with, visually, this film isn’t as dynamic as the previous installment, again seeming to be in the same vein as The Force Awakens with the color palette. Overall, The Rise of Skywalker is entertaining, but doesn’t do it for me when it comes to the progression of the story. For those who were wanting The Last Jedi to no longer be canon, The Rise of Skywalker must seem like the perfect film, with their favorite characters playing it safe. This isn’t a franchise that I’ve put a lot of effort into watching and getting to know, but it is a cultural phenomenon, so it is very hard to avoid. I’ve had fun with these films and new set of characters and am intrigued to see what else this universe will produce.
