Wow, it's been ages since my last viewing. The veneer of Important Y2k Cinema™ is long gone and I done clean forgot just how goofy, sweet, and mellow it all is. "Sad Sack" Cage deftly filmed alongside "Push in the Bush" Cage, the varying timelines, the self-referencing... its gentle cleverness feeling a lot more direct and heartfelt than my first memories of it. Seem to recall, too, Blockbuster Videos always having a surplus of these they were trying to offload at greater and greater discounts -- probably Kaufman continuing to 4th-wall his millennium melancholy on down the aisle.

taking it upon myself to watch more Nicolas Cage films so what better way to start out with Double Cage?? Nick Cage playing twins. how about that. but no he’s pretty good in this. what a meta film! like what it has to say about creativity and writer’s block, can assume a lot of people in those fields relate to that kind of stuff. takes a hard left turn in the third act but i feel like that’s kind of the point, like it beginning to adhere to more “tropey” stuff but maybe i’m wrong. ya know.

The first bit of the movie is kinda boring but it picks up after 20 or so minutes, really loved Nic Cage.  The third act feels really different from the first two, not in a bad way though, and it got really dark lol.  8/10

It’s been way too long since I last watched this, won’t be making that mistake again. I lovethis movie. Maybe my favorite Cage performance? It’s still so goddamn funny, and pulls it’s meta ending off better than UNBEARABLE WEIGHT. Is it bad that I want to see Donald’s movie?
