Holidays

A fun film to watch on a day like today, Holidays is a solid amount of fun, diving into many different genres to create a pretty cohesive holiday film. I’d love to see them attempt this again, since there really is so many possiblities with every holiday.

Holidays

Since this is an anthology, I will rate by short and do an average for my rating. Valentine's Day This was surprisingly a strong start to this film. There's only so many ways that you can go with Valentine's Day as your subject, and I'm really happy with what they chose. While it may be something done time and time again, it was still interesting to watch. ★★★ St. Patrick's Day I honestly think this is the weakest of all of the shorts. By a long shot. The set up to this was amazing, creating a similar atmosphere to the referenced Rosemary's Baby. Everything was good until the end. Once the end came, I was in complete disbelief, since it went into a polar opposite direction, becoming "funny". What could have been a great short ended up being an honestly horrid one. ★ Easter After the weakest short comes the strongest short. I was completely blown away by this short. Knowing the director's previous work (The Pact), I knew I was in for something special. And this definitely delivered. The atmosphere was absolutely perfect, creating a tremendous amount of tension that kept my heart racing throughout the entire thing. I am in absolute awe of the terror that this short was able to instill in me. ★★★★★ Mother's Day Knowing the director, I was hoping for something quite similar to last year's The Midnight Swim. While this was a well done short, I don't think that it was up to it's potential. The setup of the short was great and engaging, but the end seemed a bit too comical for what was presented. ★★★½ Father's Day Just like some of the other shorts, the setup to this was amazing. A father talking from years ago to a daughter in the present is a fantastic idea for Father's Day. Literally, this short was fantastic until the last 10 seconds, when the ending made the short feel too comical, yet again. I feel as if these tried to be scary but ultimately wanted to end up being comical, which is great, but these are supposed to be horror stories about the holidays, not a horror comedy. ★★★½ Halloween This was my most anticipated short, since I was extremely interested in seeing what Kevin Smith was able to do. This was the complete opposite of what I was expecting this short to be. I was hoping for something spookier, but instead it was just strange. It was a really good torture short, but didn't have much to do with Halloween, other than the fact that it took place on that night. I was really hoping for more from Smith. ★★★★ Christmas I would love to see this short as a full length film. The premise was fantastic, bringing something completely new to the table. I would like to see this from multiple other points of view, since this is actually a great idea. While it isn't exactly scary, it's a really unique idea that was greatly executed. ★★★★½ New Year's Eve While this was another typical type of short, I enjoyed seeing the two actors together, since their vibes were interesting together. The short was really interesting and not entirely surprising, but I still did enjoy this one. ★★★★

Holidays
