The Squid and the Whale
Alright flick, if not a little tedious. Some of the character's are just not enjoyable to watch and said character's happen to be the one's we follow the whole movie. Realistic characters, blah blah blah. I get why they're like that but still It also kinda just ends leaving a lot to be desired

This is such a painfully specific film. Fucking phenomenal performances by Daniels and Linney. Baldwin is perfect. Eisenberg is incredibly well cast it continues to fall into the “Eisenberg is just playing himself” trope, but there’s a lot more to it. Perhaps my favorite of Baumbach’s films.

Noah Baumbach afila con maestría su pluma cuando se trata de explorar las conexiones y tensiones familiares. Desde sus primeros trabajos, su honestidad y sensibilidad al construir personajes lo convirtieron en uno de los directores independientes más codiciados por los actores. Su forma de narrar se nutre de los detalles y de la memoria emocional, logrando que el espectador sienta esas emociones sutiles que solo emergen en los recuerdos más íntimos. El calamar y la ballena es un retrato agudo de las emociones más cotidianas, un ejercicio de catarsis sin recurrir a clichés, que se queda con la fibra más pura de lo que quiere contar. Baumbach consigue que este relato ligero y modesto cobre vida de forma excepcional, transmitiendo la crudeza, la ternura y la complejidad que conviven en toda historia familiar.
