Teen Spirit

2018 certainly released some interesting perspectives of modern pop music. We get tragedies with A Star is Born, as well as the stunning Vox Lux, but with Teen Spirit, we get an inspiring story, showing how anyone can rise to stardom with enough courage and passion. With this, it does lead the film into very familiar territory, offering less of the emotion of the previously mentioned films, but still offering well-rounded characters. While it may not be as ground breaking as Vox Lux or emotional as A Star is Born, Teen Spirit still has a lot to offer, showing audiences a more optimistic version of the music industry.

this was unexpectedly delightful! great (gay) soundtrack, sincere moments, neon bathed performances, and elle fanning stealing my heart. yes, this ‘small town talent participates competition’ narrative has been done before, many times. so a lot of the beats here felt familiar, but the sincerity i mentioned earlier compensates for that. side note: i’m glad they decided to go with this ending, i feel a lot of people would go for the opposite for the sake of “subverting expectations” or not being cliche, but in a film full of sincere cliches, this ending was a strength, not a detriment.

Difícilmente Teen Spirit lograr recopilar su esencia en un drama casi inexistente aunque para los fanaticos de Elle Fanning encontraran una versión adolescente más rebelde de ella siendo un gran debut en su carrera musical, sin duda un gran espectáculo visual aunque un leve relato que carece de originalidad.
