“sweetie im not the last. far from it. im just the prettiest” incredible performance from rebecca ferguson and kyleigh curran too and man i just really really love mike flanagan as a director. i really wished i enjoyed this more if only my wifi connection is cooperating with me, still love the film though. also did not realize this was a sequel (?) of the shining which i hadnt seen lmfao. i also didn’t realize that i watched the 3 hours cut.

the pacing was a bit off in the beginning but it got better as the movie progresses. i love the call back to the shining with the score and scenes. the run time was a bit too long imo, it would be better if it was 2 hours long. all the actors did an amazing job, especially rebecca!

This felt like a crossover between The Shining and The Haunting of Hill House, and I think that’s why I loved it so much. Is it a hot take to say I liked it better than Kubrik’s Shining? Probably, but I just love Mike Flanagan’s style so much, so naturally this was more my speed. Hopefully I can find the novel to read at some point, curious to see how it compares to this.
