this was written by someone intelligent. which i enjoyed. the setting of high academia laid the foundation for a decent bit of intellectually stimulating conversation, allegory and the like.  this was shot in a nuanced way. mix of focal lengths in quick succession made moments appropriately uncomfortable and disorienting, matching the emotions of the scene.  i think the ending was a bit unsatisfying. don’t really know how i am supposed to feel about all this. somehow alma is the dean now? ok. interesting commentary on the generational gap on dealing w trauma and such. i don’t think this was ayos best work - she is more of a comedic actress in my mind. garfield was strong, an emotional performance from a character that is supposed to be unlikable due to his actions. yet that is slightly ambiguous. i think i feel bad for the husband. he just wanted to listen to his music and be a good husband. w/ khalil, invited by james to a pre screening in nyc at moma
