one thing abt me? im a sucker for found family. and this is honestly a pretty great movie and i wasnt expecting that. i truly just love following leslie’s journey to sobriety and that ending tug the little strings in my heart. however, what pisses me off is this got traction bcs of her sudden campaign days before the oscar nominations.

to leslie is a somewhat by-the-numbers addiction drama and for the most part you can predict the trajectory of the narrative as it’s very familiar and very simple. however what elevates it is, of course, andrea’s performance. i’ve been a distant admirer of hers since i first saw her in w.e. (another mediocre film, considerably more so) and thought her presence was just lovely despite the poor material she was given. and once again, she manages to outshine and elevate material far beyond what it deserves. sketching a portrait of addiction that is so vivid and so raw, it can’t help but engender equal parts frustration and empathy. definitely an awards worthy performance, no doubt. or at the very least, it’s a performance that you would expect hollywood to fawn over. and at the eleventh hour they have! i will say the controversy over her nomination is very juicy to me. and as i have no particular horse in this race, i can only hope it gets messier. yes, i am that bored!

To leslie va sin rumbo en un guion tedioso y trillado que recarga el peso completo de la película en la interpretación de Andre Risburgh quien intenta no caer en la sobre actuación cliché de la alcohólica irremediable que lo pierde todo y alza el tono de vos para demostrar hasta donde puede llegar . La película pasa por una montaña rusa de interéses donde encuentras interésante el argumento y las interpretaciones hasta que pasan unos 20 o media hora de película donde avanzas en la trama por querer terminar la película y no por saber como concluye, por de cualquier forma ya no resulta tener mucho que ofrecer.
