Queen of the Damned

Queen of the Damned

❝Immortality seems like a good idea, until you realize you're going to spend it alone.❞ ──────⊹⊱✫⊰⊹────── I really wanted to like this film but it was just so boring. The story only really started during the last thirty minutes and so many characters were underutilised in favour of what felt like a hundred shots of a skinny, preening Lestat. Stuart Townsend is probably a great actor but holy hell, I couldn't make it through two minutes without cringing. Akasha was actually interesting and Aaliyah (God rest her soul) was good but again, she only came into play towards the end and had no substance. The whole story with Jesse and her aunt was completely unnecessary too. The novel had so much mythology relating to the vampires that was left out of the film. I understand that it was 2002, but the CGI was pretty bad, and the camerawork could've been better. The only redeeming qualities are the sets and music; I knew as soon as I heard the violin piece that it was composed by an Indian artist, and I was right (L. Shankar is amazing). It's hard not to compare the two adaptations of Anne Rice's novels, but seriously, they're almost complete opposites in terms of quality; I don't think I'll be watching Queen of the Damned again.
