Ghosts of Mars
When your flashbacks have flashbacks! Millennium romp with an airborne Martian cybermetal wasteland weekend death cult brainbug possesor, fresh outta the archives and now scratching behind your eyes. Hard not to crack a smile as it all goes down.
Ghosts of Mars
Flawed, but fun. Some streamer needs to give Carpenter a blank check and just let him go sicko mode one last time.
Ghosts of Mars
#1 of 31 Days of Madness: October 2017 (https://boxd.it/1fIvM) October season commences with John Carpenter's shoot-em-up horror; a dust storm frenzy of bullets and ugly spirits that has everything from razor-sharp frisbees to the aggressive eyebrows of Ice Cube. The displays of action are frantic but messy, and the story isn't very fleshed out—yet, despite so many things wrong with it, Ghosts of Mars does hold an amount of decent entertainment that's both thoughtless and stupidly fun. This is by far the weakest entry I've seen from Carpenter—his vision isn't beautified here on screen, and instead it's thrown together in a chaotic whirl of disappointment. With not much happening in its first half, the film simmers towards the first onslaught of mindless action where things soon enough pick up—there's also a weird style to certain shots that appear more distracting than interesting, which can also go for the insane music from Carpenter that doesn't necessarily work. The whole thing fumbles at true suspense or terror, and rather runs along like a piece of video-game material. However, Ghosts of Mars proved to be tolerable through its sheer dumbness, which was good enough for me. 2.6/5
Ghosts of Mars
enjoyed this a lot which was really needed. low budget high quality B movie that reminded me a lot of low budget high quality 50s westerns. definitely recommend
