Finding Dory

Can a film be too cute? This pushes the upper echelons of adorableness and we laughed and we laughed. The short film "Piper" set the tone from the get-go, and it was a nice trip down memory lane to 2003.

Finding Dory

Awee this was sweet. Follows a similar vein to the original but this is one of the few movies where a whole story/movie sequel about a supporting character isn’t absolutely terrible. Do Sigourney Weaver sponsor this movie or something?

Finding Dory

Growing up, Finding Nemo happened to be one of my favorite Disney films, and still remains one of my favorite films. When I first heard about Finding Dory, I was a bit skeptical. It had been a long time since the first film, and there really was no expectation from me for a sequel. At the announcement of it, I was intrigued by what they were going to do, since Finding Nemo ended in a way that really didn't need a sequel. Now that I've watched it, I really do think that this was a needed sequel, and really does capture the essence of Finding Nemo, while still being extremely original and creating a great new story. Finding Nemo didn't feel like it needed a sequel, but it did. There was so much more that could be told about Marlin, Nemo, and Dory, so it was interesting to have Dory be the lead instead of the other fish. Dory was a character who didn't really have a backstory in the original film, so it was nice to actually see how she grew up, and what led her to meeting Marlin. There were some things in the first film that needed a bit more explaining, and this film was able to create a really interesting backstory to a really simple fish. The animation was something that I was really surprised about. I was expecting something along the lines of the original, but this felt much more vibrant and alive. The colors seemed to pop off the screen, as well as the fantastic animation. Since Finding Nemo was released when the animation was still not at it's peak, it is really nice to see the updated version of what the film would have looked like if it were released today. And it was really fun from the animators to include characters from films like Toy Story 3 and Inside Out as little Easter eggs throughout. Finding Dory didn't feel like it should have been made when I first heard about it, but it really does answer some questions that were still there from the first film. The voice actors were great, including all of the new characters. Usually, I'm not the biggest fan of sequels, but I really do think that this is a well-made sequel that does rival the first film. While I do prefer the first film, Finding Dory is still a fantastic sequel to a fantastic film. Maybe we'll see more of Marlin, Nemo, and Dory in the future, with the new characters that were just as enjoyable.
