The Handmaiden

this was a bit too weird and disturbing for me, still an extremely intriguing and brilliantly coordinated cinematic experience though. p.s. i might watch the original cut later

Rear Window

although i did not expect it to be this simple, the sheer tension and anxiety provoked throughout the film still makes it a decent thriller.

La La Land

La La Land

one of the first few films that got me to fall in love with cinema, and i’ve been obsessed with the medium ever since. Experiencing this film again feel like experiencing cinema at its purest, most sensational, and most magical form. god how i love a good piece of cinematic art, say thank you Damien Chazelle.

Dune

Dune

never have i ever seen a film so immense in the scale of its setting, mystifying in its layered themes, and so brillant in portraying the internal depth of its numerous characters - tremendous work!

Soul

would’ve been even better if it were longer and got more time to take greater care of its characters and really achieve the narrative and thematic ambition that it was shooting for.

Project Hail Mary

Project Hail Mary

my mind was initially like 'i might raise it to a 4.5 on the next rewatch,' but upon rethinking my life choices and how i've always been swayed by the popular opinions, i thought to myself, 'but i really did enjoy the film so damn much,' so i just have to give it its well deserved flowers. 4 and a half stars! p.s. this marked the first time i've cried to a harry styles song.

Incendies

Incendies

despite the fact that i had been pre-warned countless times of how fucked up Incendies can be, the sheer level of disturbance and uncertainty scattered throughout this film still shook me to the core. And that horror is further amplified by the purposefully steady pacing, the layered imagery, and the intricate storytelling. Villenueve is really just that good.

Phantom Thread

Phantom Thread

what I first expected to be a film centered around fashion and career grind, given that I was not familiar with Paul Thomas Anderson's works at all, turned out to be one of the most compelling romance story ever told in cinema. Far from being a generic romantic drama, Phantom Thread is a complex, unconventional, and psychotic masterwork, an intriguing portait of what it means to endure and traverse the journey of a relationship. And to be quite frank, I almost did not like it that much because of how my anxiety was shooting through the roof the entire time, these people were so fucking unhinged. Definitely a top-5 first watch I had in 2025.
