Beach Rats
Harris Dickinson gave us a whole essay on queer confusion using only his eyebrows.
Beach Rats
Just as surprising Brigsby Bear was, Beach Rats is by far one of this year's biggest surprises. Eliza Hittman has created one of the year's most personal and vulnerable films, very different from The Florida Project but similar in the fact that it depicts reality, reality for many young men today. It's a poignant look into the mind of a young man who isn't quite sure about who he is, while attempting to figure out exactly what his sexuality is. For many individuals, this is a film that will resonate with them, as many of the scenes mirror exactly what happens to people, myself included. While this film may take some situations to the extreme, Beach Rats still manages to strike a chord with many members of the LGBT community. It's a stunning film, especially considering that this was directed by a woman, not a gay man, showing a woman's perspective on questioning male sexuality. It's a beautifully shot film with some surprisingly well-done acting, making the film altogether match the surprisingly real premise. Beach Rats certainly isn't the best LGBT film out there, but is the best one yet that I've watched this year (that is, until I've watched Call Me By Your Name).
Beach Rats
This felt underwhelming when it came to the performances of certain cast members and i feel like the script and the cinematography could’ve just been done a lot better with a little bit of improvements here and there but the overall message and theme was executed fairly well in just a raw way that doesn’t shy away from the reality of such.
