Criterion Spine #1199 This was too unsettling and just weird. The score played such a core part in this; it was like that from the beginning, with an inexplicable, uneasy vibe that didn’t even match the content on screen. It felt like foreshadowing something so unexpected that, when it finally happens, you’re actually anticipating it the whole time. The two characters are a bit of the perfect polar pair. One is insanely insolent and out of touch, and the other is insanely whimsical and out of touch. They both share a corrupt past, so they’re a bit instinctual with their actions. It seems like they’re unfazed, but I think the more interesting thing is that they’re able to switch roles and ultimately become one and the same. This felt like an erratic Funny Games for girls.
