Diary Entry forHedda
“you’re upset i couldn’t choose you.” “i was. once. not anymore. not for a long time.” this has been my most anticipated film of 2025 and it did not disappoint, its quite literally everything to me! i love every single changes made in this adaptation while still not straying away from the source material especially because of the genderbend and my god was it the best thing ever. im not gonna lie the source material in itself is already messy but this having lesbians at the center of it made it so much better. tessa thompson and nina hoss are literally so perfect, the acting on both ends are fucking incredible, the chemistry is so delicious, and the toxic yuri oooohhh give me more. nia dacosta, oh the visionary that you are, i will watch everything that you will make i love you! need these women to win all the awards actually, oscar campaign starts now!!!

80/100 Check out my 2025 ranked - boxd.it/Fn1G4 (https://boxd.it/Fn1G4) Hedda is a straight line of destruction that feeds on her thoughtless egocentric self. She comes in a situation where she has to protect her current state of living or give it all up for that old love of her past life, the love which in this world is taboo. That house felt like the same one they used in Saltburn and the time period, setting and storytelling felt like something out of Sherlock Holmes right before Holmes comes in to face the music. I haven’t read many books but the Holmes books I have read and these innate conversations with this complexity conveying the desire, the dark truths, the conflict all amidst a wonderful and lively party makes up for a brilliant crime thriller and while this quite isn’t that and I’m not sure it promises to be either, it keeps you intrigued, it keeps you anticipating. Filled with gorgeous people and some exciting sequences, this is a film similar to Babylon with less chaos and more linearity. Similar to Babylon as well, I fear this will not be as receptive and perhaps in time, revisionism will align with my thoughts along with a few others who see this film as a beautiful tale of a woman lighting herself on fire to save what bit of dignity she demands belong to her.
