Wedding Season
This had a lot of potential to be a good fake dating trope, but it didn't stand out to me as much. I felt that the drama building up around Ravi supposedly 'lying' was very lackluster, although the acting was strong. The film did a good job of representing forced arranged marriage, which is an Indian tradition that still exists. As an Indian myself, I appreciated the authenticity of the scenes depicting Indian weddings, the food, and the white character attempting to fit into a Bollywood scene. However, I didn't like the execution of the fake dating aspect. I wanted to understand more about how Asha fell in love with Ravi because it never really showed that progression. With Ravi, you could see how he evolved into liking Asha, but with Asha, I never understood how she came to like him. While the romance in the fake dating trope had potential, I felt they rushed the storyline of them liking each other instead of allowing it to develop into a slow burn. That said, I loved the Indian representation! They captured it realistically, especially with the aunties always in people's business—so spot on. I would have given it a 4 out of 5 if it weren't for the fake dating trope, which I typically don't enjoy. Overall, though, it was good, so I’d rate it 3.5 out of 5.
