Molly's Game
Yuppp! This is what I’m talking about. Women in male-dominated roles. Go Molly. I will say the run time was slightly longer than I think it needed to be. And some of the camera work, just like in I, Tonya was shoddy (overly blurry) around the ice skating scene. Typically, I don’t like films that’s rely basically entirely on flashbacks for exposition, but Aaron Sorkin did it in a way that worked for me here. This is an underrated gem! Jessica Chastain did the damn thing, and actually looks like Molly Bloom herself. Good job. No unnecessary love interest!
Molly's Game
Biographical films can be tricky, especially when the person that is being covered is still alive. Molly's Game features Molly Bloom, a young woman still living her life today, and tells her story and details exactly what occurred to her. Although I haven't read the novel Molly's Game, this film seems like it is a very solid adaptation. Chastain's performance is one of the strongest of the year, and Sorkin's script being so tight and concise that the film doesn't drift at all. While this film is a lengthy film, the time seems to fly by. It's an intriguing film that actually makes me want to read the novel and see how close this film actually got to Bloom's story.
