the only thing i really really hate abt the movie version is the fact that they made it revolve around roger so much, like who even gives a fuck abt roger? they cut so much songs and left all the roger songs its so annoying. thank god i always have my lesbian lenses on and all i see is the gay people. collins, angel, maureen, and joanne big 4, angel has no business being dead it should’ve been roger. AND FUCK YOU ROSARIO DAWSON

the original was definitely better but like this one’s great as well. tracie thoms being casted as joanne is literally the best thing to have ever happened. take me or leave me is my favorite part though most especially when maureen crawled in the pool table, like yes maam top me or something.

Rentis one of the most iconic musicals of all time, as well as one of the most progressive. There are several songs that I had known before watching the film, so I was really excited to see what the songs were like in the film. I hadn't listened to the Broadway version of the soundtrack, since I wanted to watch the movie before properly giving the soundtrack a listen. Now that I've seen Rent, I'm speechless. I was not expecting this film to be as emotional as it was. I knew it tackled the thought subject of AIDS, and I knew things that were going to happen even as I started the film, but they're still extremely shocking and deeply saddening. It's horrifying to see normal, beautiful people succumb to AIDS. While the subject is still somewhat relevant today, I can see how the subject was really something that was needed to talk about when it was written. Now that I have some context for some of the songs that I know, it really is saddening to listen to them, knowing what happens with the songs. I practically loved everything about Rent. It was a fun film to watch, despite the heavy subjects and crying that went along with it. There was just one discrepancy that I had with the film, Adam Pascal. I've seen him in Alleluia! The Devil's Carnivaland I loved him, and I was expecting to in this. For some reason, I just did not like his voice at all, and I couldn't stand the fact that at most times it didn't look like he was singing, but rather just talking. It was really weird for a musical, since the purpose is for the characters to sing. But other than that, there is honestly no other thing I can say I disliked about Rent. I'm so glad I finally watched Rent. I've been meaning to watch it for some time, and I finally had the motivation to watch it. It's emotional, it's powerful, and it's important. Many people may be turned off from this, due to the fact that it is a musical, but I think it is a film that people need to watch. It gives awareness to AIDS, and shows the struggles of young adults trying to make it in contemporary New York City. Rent indeed is one of the greatest musicals ever written.
