The Goonies

A very kid-ish film, but perhaps that's precisely what makes it such a classic of the 80s.

The Goonies

"The Goonies", written by Chris Columbus based on a story by Steven Spielberg and directed by Richard Donner is an 80s classic with a legendary status. That, of course, means that I had never seen it before. Well, my best friend dragged me out to Regal Theaters to see this film on the big screen for the first time ever, and I had an okay time with it! It's pretty funny, with Key Huan and Corey Feldman being the standouts here for me. From a technical standpoint, the movie looks great with impressive lighting and shot composition. The actual colors of this one though are quite ugly - with a drab and muddy color pallette. On top of that, I felt like this movie felt kind of awkward. The choreography is stilted and the child actors yelling over one another gets old fast. When things do take a moment to go slower and be emotional, it feels hammy - not too dissimilar to a 90s sitcom. Maybe if I had seen this at a younger, more impressionable age, I would have loved this film. That's on me for being late to the party, I guess. Overall, though, it was okay.
