Into the Woods

Into the Woods

I can't express in words how much I enjoyed Into the Woods. Going into the movie, I had known little about the film or the stage play. I had just known that it would have a witch and storybook characters. And it delivered those and more. I'm actually really surprised that Disney picked this movie up. You usually think of Disney movies being all happy with the great happy ending. You won't really get that from this. Disney is for kids; this is not for kids. Into the Woods is a very adult movie, even though Disney distributed it. Being that it was a Disney film, it was just magical. The set was just utterly beautiful. The actors were amazing. I'd like to point out Anna Kendrick, since she was just so amazing in both her singing and portrayal of Cinderella. Meryl Streep was just as amazing. I actually enjoyed her more as the younger witch than the older (both are seen in the trailer). The rest of the cast did an amazing job, but Anna and Meryl were just spectacular. The songs were also amazing! I had listened to both the Original and Revival version of Into the Woods, so I had known the songs when I was going in. It was really cool hearing some people around us singing along to the songs, since they had most likely known the actual play! "Hello, Little Girl" was my favorite from the play, and it made it my favorite of the movie, mostly because Johnny Depp played a great wolf! Rob Marshall did an amazing job for this. I felt he was perfectly capable of doing this, since he had done Chicago and Nine. I don't think any other director could have handled the movie like he did. It's really nice to see more of Broadway come onto the big screen lately. I'm excited to see what other musicals come out!

Into the Woods

I just have so much fun watching this, plus showing it to someone new was even more fun. I honestly may need to give Sondheim another go because I really found myself enjoying his lyricism. Rob Marshall has impressed with his ventures into musicals (I haven’t seen Ninethough so my opinion may change there), so I hope to see more musical ventures from him in the future.

Into the Woods

The magic of musicals is able to encapture audiences and transport them to amazing worlds filled with song and dance. I have always enjoyed musicals, ever since I was young. It wasn't until recently that I was shown Broadway musicals, and my love for them grew even more. Into the Woods was one of the first musicals I actually started to actively listen to and holds a very dear place in my heart. After every watch, I am left wondering how Rob Marshall was able to get the musical on screen and make it so beautiful. I have loved this musical and I love the movie just as much. This is the way that musicals should be, with gorgeous sets, fantastic actors, and the perfect songs. Does Into the Woods have its faults? Of course it does, but I can ignore those and just immerse myself into the musical. I love Into the Woods and I can't wait to go revisit the Broadway soundtrack now.
