Diary Entry forAutumn Sonata
“the mother’s injuries are handed down to the daughter. the mother’s failures are paid for by the daughter. the mother’s unhappiness will be the daughter’s unhappiness. its as if the umbilical cord had never been cut” literally stared at the ceiling for 10 minutes after the film ended. and i dont think im processing anything at all i just know that its heavy and i feel heavy and that it hit too close to home. i need time to recuperate.

Autumn Sonata
if you ask me to name the film with the best performances I’d name this, the two leads are so good in this it makes other good performances look amateurish. Truly breathtaking stuff. The story is simple yet complex, pent-up emotions which have been bottled away for so long that when it all comes it it’s ugly to watch, and you feel the hatred and disappointment come out all at once. Neglect must be one of the worst things to experience as a child and this film shows it perfectly. A deeply touching and twisted watch, Bergman at his most powerful.
Autumn Sonata
Autumn Sonata
Autumn Sonata is another superb film by Bergman. I completely understand why it would be rated 5 stars, but for me, it doesn't quite reach that level because the story doesn't quite resonate with me. Nevertheless, it's a very powerful film with a classical feel and classical music. Bergman masterfully creates the atmosphere, making you feel completely immersed in the film. Overall, it's another very strong Bergman film, just like his others, which I would rate 4.1/5.
