I have no clue how I only recently discovered “Love You I Do”, so it made sense to give this another watch. It’s a stunning film with powerhouse performances across the board. The only problem I have is that it feels a bit… disconnected from the songs. The tracks that the groups sing feel natural within the story, but the character-driven tracks feel a bit at odds with the rest of the story. Still, I really do love this film and hope to one day experience it live on stage.

I love this musical so much, and I can’t believe it took me this long to watch the film adaptation. It’s nice to see the story played out in the screen, and Jennifer Hudson certainly was the one shining here. The direction really seemed uninspired, which could have brought even more life to this musical. Some fantastic casting choices really make this film worthwhile, even if it is a bit drab in direction.
