Exit 8

Forbidden Fruits
such a fun movie!!!!!!!! god i loved it. silly yet gorg looking and with such good performances. victoria pedretti you will always be famous

undertone
i finally watched this (at 11am because i'm a coward btw) and i think it was very very good, especially the last 15 minutes. a pretty understated movie though, but that's what i loved the most about it. sound design is insane and made me take off my headset for a second several times because of how unbearably overwhelming it was. spoiler territory (kind of): i like the ending too! i love the interpretations of this being her navigating a psychotic episode, the mom being the baby, etc. so many little threads from which to find your preferred truth about the whole thing, which i will always prefer over being spoon fed something. i don't think the reality of what happened in the house is as important as our interpretation of it (very horror game in that regard) so i'm quite happy. nothing groundbreaking but it was genuinely great, and nina kiri was insane.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day
i don't usually like these type of movies but i really liked it actually! very fun and kinda cried lol so cool

Bodies Bodies Bodies
good bad movie. very fun though my boyfriend predicted the ending like 40 mins into the film

Silent Hill
terrible adaptation and underused sean bean. overall not a bad time though, and the locations and cinematography were surprisingly okay! wouldn't watch again but it's not all bad. never remake nor adapt games ever again though

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple
that was so insanely good, and again, the cinematography... man. how gorgeous. it felt very second act, which isn't a problem for me, but i can understand why some people wouldn't love it, since it feels very jarringly cut between movies. i, for once, don't care at all. so many moments had me gasping out loud, and as always, ralph fiennes is just a star through and through. the beating heart of this movie! especially with that plotline. jimmy is, on the other hand, a bit too cartoonishly evil villain for my liking, but i already knew that so not really a complaint, just slight annoyance at how long i have to tolerate him. in any case, i really can't wait for more, i loved the ending-setup for a third movie and i think it's shaping up to be a modern masterpiece and icon of a trilogy.

Send Help
this was a fun watch! of course rachel mcaddams is perfect, and the movie is visually a breath of fresh air, but imo it's far from raimi's best work (as in, evil dead 1+2 and spider man), which isn't to say it's bad or uninspired. a fun film that you can actually enjoy, even if it's a bit simple, being your worst is actually a compliment imo. i saw someone on twitter earlier complaining that this movie didn't know what genre it wanted to be, if drama, horror or comedy, and honestly i think that's just raimi's thing, so you should always expect that. anyway, it was good. not mind blowing but good. and i love the mia winters-esque look for linda in the end! pretty cool. would re-watch on a lazy afternoon for sure. and i always love more raimi!

A Tale of Two Sisters
this was so tense and so good but sadly i had already seen the usa remake so it didn't come as a surprise for me (even though the twist was still pretty obvious). i do love the colors in this film, and yum jung-ah looks gorgeous in every scene, but the movie itself felt rather lackluster. good, but nothing crazy

Perfect Days
i heard the original title of the movie was “komorebi”, as in "the quality of light as it filters through foliage", and it makes so much sense. a delicate dance of light and love and dignity in the face of hardships, this movie feels unpretentious and yet so beautifully crafted. hirayama is the perfect portrait of humanity, and kōji yakusho does an amazing job, especially in that last scene. i know there are many interpretations, some of them deeper and darker than others, but to me, this movie reflects the perfect days we get in life, which are usually not perfect at all, while actively grieving, or feeling sad, or having a broken past or uncertain future. we move through life with so much heartbreak in us, in so many different ways, and sometimes this despair washes ashore like waves, crashing against our perfectly organized, peaceful life, and it's out of our control. there are so many thoughts i would like to be able to articulate when it comes to perfect days, but i think it will be a while before i can follow the thread of each one of them. one foot in front of the other. next time is next time, now is now. ps. gorgeous cinematography and stunning colors here pss. this is also a love letter to the people who keep the world spinning. janitors and service workers, you will always be honored by me

Birth
this was almost good but it just falls flat and never delves too deep into anything, which isn't ambiguous but unsatisfying. not awful but i wouldn't even bother to watch again. pretty to look at but that's it

Mother
kim hye-ja is insane in this, which isn't surprising, but still, wow. i loved this film so much, and it touched on so many aspects of family, motherhood, misoginy and ableism that i think a deep analysis wouldn¡t fit in this one review. the scene crazy jp is so particularly sudden and overwhelming that i genuinuely had my hand in my mouth for a moment. i think it's subtler than other movies of him, but still, very good as always. the opening and final scene are so striking as well. what a ride

Bugonia
this was sensational!!!!! i already knew the ending and yet i enjoyed it immensely. emma stone is a beast, as always, but i think this might me my favorite. what an insane actress. i didn't really care too much about jesse plemons' acting though, which is a shame since he's usually so good, but it's just a testament of how amazing emma stone is. gorgeous colors, insane tension and breathtaking acting. just five stars all around

Rental Family
i cried like 8 times watching this. such a beautiful movie about companionship, loneliness and human connection. gorgeous cinematography too. i just love brendan fraser, and he's definitely the perfect choice to bring a sense of warmth and kindness to this. plus, i find cute how big and out of place he feels in some scenes. endearing

28 Years Later
actually very good! missing just a tiny bit of grith, but still very entretaining and a bit anxiety inducing, especially in the first half. i can't understand all the complains about the supposed odd tonl shift. it's barely three minutes at best, in the "epilogue" of the movie, and it's introducing the more frantic and cruel tone of the next one. i don't love it but i see the vision. it's so overwhelming which is, i'm sure, the point. jimmy is a sadistic force to be reckoned with, and a man-child. i don't think it's ridiculous, i think he's supposed to take over everything. in any case, while i wish it had leaned fully into the horror aspect of the film, i find it perfectly in tune with the first one. can't wait for the bone temple

Sinners
loved it sm... i just expected a bit more from the cinematography since everyone is talking about this movie. however it was just so good, and such a breath of fresh air in vampire stories. a bit tired for an in-depth analysis right now, but honestly, worth a watch
