Kotoko
Wow, just wow, it feels so real, mental illness with touch of art that pour into a movie, this is so chaoticly depressing, disturbing, scary and crazy, there's no ghost or something scary just a shout from people with mental illness. As a mentally unstable person, it was such a hell ride for me, cuz it triggers me A LOT, i'm so uncomfortable rn, i could say it's my worst experience with a very good movie. I don't know this movie could be this dark, and i DON'T recommend it if your sick, tired or mentally unstable to watch this.

Cocco is pretty incredible in this. I hate the cliche of a “brave”performance, but it really does apply here. The kind of committed deeply unselfconscious acting that burrows into your soul. Tsukamoto does a really incredible job behind the camera, the frenetic handheld close camera adds so much tension to the story.

06-23-23 • Shin'ya Tsukamoto As difficult to review as it is to watch, Shin’ya Tsukamoto’s Kotoko follows the tragic story of a single mother dealing with violent hallucinatory visions, making it one of the most harrowing viewing experiences I have had in a long time (unless you count The Flash as harrowing…which I very much do). I enjoyed this, for the most part, mostly due to its inherent Taukamoto-isms. It is also surprisingly tender and respectful towards it subject, despite the confronting nature of the film itself. Not really sure if would ever go out of my way to recommend this to someone, seeing just how uncomfortable it is to get through.
