Good god, this was practically a balm for the residual soreness of watching Kingsman (and its ilk). Zero dialogue, gorgeous animation, and art which fucking believes in itself. Breath-halting beauty and twilight considerations to be found here-- dive in!
The Red Turtle
A stunning animated piece, The Red Turtle is the most unique animated film that I think that I've ever seen. The dialogue-less film is completely stunning. I wasn't sure how an animated film was going to be without dialogue, but this was beautiful. A story of love, The Red Turtle shows the story of a man stranded on an island, finding love, and dealing with the cruelness of nature. Joyous at times, while melancholic at others, this film ultimately touches upon almost every emotion. The ending is heartbreaking but is hopeful, compared to the sad beginning. Altogether, The Red Turtle is one of this year's best films, as well as one of the most unique.
