Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!
#THIS is real love
Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!
- still one of my least favorite almodóvar films so far. - as much as i enjoy him as a filmmaker--that probably won't ever change--i remember, on my initial viewing, that this personally felt like one of his weaker movies. there's this certain imbalance to it, similar to how i recall feeling about matador (1986) [easily my least favorite almodóvar]. - it could be the narrative itself; it could be the character dynamics; it could even be the ending. - it could just be that this film isn't for me. - i'm honestly more interested as to what inspired him to make this one. i feel i'd find more pleasure reading about it, rather than watching it ever again. 🤷🏿♂️
Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!
Beginning to realize that I just love the way Pedro Almodóvar tells stories! There's just this perfect balance between Hitchock and Ferrante that makes his films so literary, suspenseful, and decadent. Antonio Banderas is absolutely charming in this one. Man-child at his finest. Victoria Abril is simply gorgeous with a tres fort performance. I've always told myself after being told that if you really want something, you'll get it. Does this work with people too? I feel like a lot of the 80's-early 2000's spent a lot of time chasing after girls who didn't want to be chased after at all. Why couldn't people just be? How much love is actually in toxicity? How much can it actually remedy the ills of our existence? Almodóvar treads dangerous waters in themes for such a story, but it's through the charm of Banderas and Abril that makes the film exciting, full of life. The colors in this one! The opening shot alone, the fade from painting to real, was absolutely stunning.
Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!
Es una exploración colorida del síndrome de Estocolmo elevada por un Antonio Banderas impecable, ceñida por un trabajo apasionado de Pedro Almodóvar, un ejercicio básico pero robusto de estilo que define al director manchego.
