Peppermint Candy

the loss of innocence. i appreciate when a filmmaker tries to do something out of the ordinary, such as telling a story completely backwards. with every new chapter, we're being shown what made yongho the person he came to be and ultimately, what made him take his own life. i think it does a good job at "show-but-not-tell". a lot of this movie is up to personal interpretation. putting a meaning behind the candy, the train, the camera, etc.. all the things that mattered to him in the earlier parts of his life. sul kyunggu does a great job portraying yongho, a to-be-miserable prick. some parts of this film paled in comparison to other parts. the first 2 years & the last 2 years were definitely the ones that i liked the best. they were just the most interesting to watch. the other ones during the middle weren't bad at all though! this was my first experience with lee changdong and i quite liked this. also, some of the fastest 131 minutes of my life. such a quick watch.
