Torso
Martino, Argento, Fulci e Bava o Quarteto Do Terror italiano.
Torso
Hooptober 9/31 ********************* Easy sleazy. I think this one ultimately snagged me in that last half once we're all locked up in the villa together. Shoot, I'm still wondering with each film so far whether giallo is my cup of tea or if it's just a point of fascination, like in the artifact sense. Lots of exploration left to do either way.
Torso
Black gloves. Steamy, luxurious women. The flow of blood exiting a deep wound. The killer's point of view. 1973 Torso is an excitedly slick and graphic giallo, gloriously charged by an amalgamation of all things flesh, blood, and mystery. Following a group of female students in Perugia, Torso deals with the deaths reigned upon them by a mysterious killer wearing a black and red scarf. His kills are ruthless and vile, emphasizing the craziness inside the murderer's head, and the only thing the police can wave about is the scarf. With little evidence the killer stalks the women freely. Working much like a slasher than a giallo, the film is classic to the genre, throwing in the death-after-sex trait and a few nasty kills, superimposing a wicked sense of sick fun. It gets a little jumpy moving from a character in one scene to another in another scene but as soon as a few are killed off it tackles its main characters nicely. Nonetheless, it can seem that a few women were undermined and not properly established when pondered upon. But the film exploits the females as luscious pieces of eye candy with gorgeous tans, exposed breasts, and seductive makeup, which is even more alluring if you're into that kinda stuff. The scenic backdrop is another jaw dropping sight; daytime Perugia is a beautiful place I wouldn't mind visiting. The kills are grisly and quick, and no doubt one of the film's defining features. However it dies down during act two in where the film loses its usually engrossing pace, unfortunately damaging the overall result. Nevertheless, Torso is a pretty great giallo with plenty good wit, honorable of checking the fuck out if you enjoy babes and Italy and scarfs and blood.
