The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover
To always relay to others how visually stunning this film is will always be an understatement. Combining color story with Gaultier's costuming to give us the great tell-all of the sacrifices we make for love in the face of our contemporary woes—even if it means by way of pure destruction—just to immaculate man will always be my cup of tea. Color as escapism. Desire as freedom. And Mirren puts on a fine performance, elegant and poised as always.
The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover
One of the most vile, disgusting, unhinged, vomit-inducing just purely unadulterated sick movies that my eyes have ever witnessed. Loved it. Michael Gambon plays the titular "Thief" of the piece, Albert who might just be one of the most terrible human beings to ever grace the silver screen but surprisingly very darkly hilarious, next to him is his wife Georgina, brilliantly played by Helen Mirren, who finds herself in an affair with a man named Michael and from then on everything gets crazier and crazier. Beyond all the gross aspects of this film lies some beautiful backdrops, most of this movie takes place in 3 different sets, each with their own color palette, the red of the dining room, the white of the bathroom and the green of the kitchen, it could have different interpretations but i think the dining room could represent Hell and Albert is The Devil, the bathroom is a safe space for Georgina where she can be free from Albert and the kitchen could be Heaven where she can finally be happy with Michael. Im sure people smarter than me have better interpretations but i just admire all the choices in set design, cinematography and specially costuming with all the multiple costume changes between sets. Also, the music is fantastic, there's always a sense of uneasiness in the air that eventually explodes into a haunting melody in the end. The Cook, The Thief, his Wife and her Lover was truly unbelievable, its unlike anything i've seen before, i absolutely wouldnt recommend it but i wont stop you if you wanna give it a watch. Also, Tim Roth is on crack and they filmed it and left it all in.
The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover
This film solidified my fan fiction about Charlie Rose fucking Stanley Kubrick’s Wife.
