Huesera: The Bone Woman

Huesera: The Bone Woman is a film that doesn’t feel quite like it knows what it wants to accomplish. At it’s core, this is a pregnancy drama, which delves into the supernatural, but the primary focus is on pregnancy. There’s a queer story here as well, but doesn’t feel fleshed out enough to be meaningful. There’s a lot of interesting ideas going on here, but when they all come together, things get a bit muddy. If there had been a bit more development in the other ideas presented, I think this film could have soared. That being said, it was still a very interesting film, which looked pretty good as well. The cast was fine, nobody particularly standing out, but everyone showed up and did their jobs pretty well. I’m glad I was able to watch this, since I had seen some discussion about it a while back, and I’m glad I got to go out and support this, since nobody else was in my screening. I’ll have to visit this one again in the future, since there really is a lot of interesting things going on within this film.
