Though "Cloud" revisits themes or scenes from many of Kurosawa's previous work, it never feels like a best-of compilation or a cheap cash grab. The story is almost always engaging and surprising, while the tonal and genre turns are almost always interesting. I guess a main reason for that was that I went into it knowing absolutely nothing, and I'm very glad I did that. The lack of a clear motivation of the killers works well for the tone and thematic content of the movie. It makes the violence they want to enact all the more scarier (like in many other Kurosawa movies), while graying the premise and making choosing a side very difficult. It also zigzags the movie between being a revenge flick (or a double revenge one?) and a home invasion (kind of), while having just enough thought provoking undertones to keep it interesting. It also has maybe the third best apocalyptic driving sequence in all Kurosawa's movies I've seen.

i find it hilarious that everyone has justified reasons to try kill eachother but never think about the system that puts them into it; this is what Camus talks about!
