Sebastián é um homem gay que não vê sentido prático na vida, apesar de ser um artista de relativa fama, ele possuí uma personalidade e comportamentos um tanto quanto suicidas. Um dia ele resolve visitar uma praia de nudismo muito popular, lá ele encontra Jordan Firstmam que é o total oposto de Sebastian e juntos eles resolvem engatar um projeto juntos, porém um acidente cria uma trama de relações complexas que envolvem a todos. Rotting in The Sun é um filme que utiliza da linguagem digital e das relações expressas da internet pra contar uma história sobre como vários assuntos importantes são diluídos por conta da atual tecnologia provida pela internet e smartphones. O filme é muito hábil em criar uma atmosfera nihilista acompanhando um personagem abertamente depressivo, com tendências suicidas e que não vê sentido prático na vida. Utilizando-se também de relações sexuais e pseudo românticas que surgem no calor do momento vivendo aquele ditado ao limite: live fast, die Young. Outro assunto muito pertinente é a espetacularização de tragédias e como assuntos sérios são diluídos em correntes de TikTok, Instagram e memes. O filme também se sustenta bastante por conta de um mistério a qual nós já sabemos a solução e ficamos pensando como ou se isso vai ser resolvido de alguma forma. Se cabem críticas a Rotting in The Sun, isso se dá por conta do excesso de cenas de sexo que, se num primeiro momento tendem a criar uma perspectiva de desconforto com o protagonista, o que é muito bem feito e funcional, da segunda metade pra frente, vira mais uma questão gratuita do que qualquer coisa, mas não acho que seja um demérito muito grande, afinal cinema heterossexual tem cena de sexo a rodo e ninguém reclama, o problema tá mais na fetichização de alguns corpos em específico e algumas conveniências que não incomodam porque você percebe que faz sentido. No mais Rotting in The Sun é um filme de mistério que diáloga sobre alguns assuntos pertinentes e tem uma trama bem amarrada e que prende sua atenção.

Rotting in the Sun is a smart and aboslutely hilarious mystery-comedy that pulls back the curtain on social media influencers, mental health, and the gay community. It’s aboslutely bonkers at times, but that’s what made this such an interesting watch. To see communinties that I know well put under such a wild microscope, but still gaining more knowledge about my relation to them. Absolutely one of the best films of the year.

Literally the queer experience. Like, I'm sorry, fuck your 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴 and your Shein sheer tops. But it's ugly. It's so ugly to be gay, inside and out. And you preachy fags better not come for me, but it really is just doom scrolling until you cross an instathot wondering why you don't look as good amidst other numbing content because you're too poor to do your art and suicide may be the best option when it really comes down to it. Silva casting himself to create this dizzying auto-fictive 𝘜𝘯𝘤𝘶𝘵 𝘎𝘦𝘮𝘴 for the Grindr gays Super Rush in a non-twinky Troye Sivan kind of way is brilliant, but honestly SIlva is too sexy for his own good. I wish they had casted someone a little uglier. Like come on Silva!!! You can't be hot and poor and wallowing in self pity! Save some for the rest of us ugly folk! Impressive how the last half runs through Google translate and the terror at which the working class exists in on a daily basis when dealt with such a sprinted start. Ending was rushed but babes I FEEL THE RUSH ADDICTED TO YOUR TOUCH and honestly nothing but three bottles of poppers in your fridge is girl dinner at best. Peak gay cinema. Netflix queer series is content, this is art.
