The Matrix Reloaded

— watched in open matte — it’s funny how much the style of the wachowskis lends itself to a superman movie, and how much they take from comics, video games, religion, and mythology, while making it their own, unlike tarantino or many modern filmmakers. one of the best second acts of all time, with the burly brawl, merovingian fight, and freeway chase practically back to back. the freeway is such an obvious allusion to the river styx it’s kind of incredible, and it’s even more incredible that even on a casual watch it’s still amazing. so many layers to the story that i could probably watch it 15 times and write 15 more essays and still not scratch the surface. there are obvious flaws, like almost every wachowski movie, but the highs peak high enough that it doesn’t come close to mattering.

Nowhere near as good as the first, yet still a very enjoyable time with good action and a great story. The plot can be a little confusing as it moves very fast, but it’s still excellently shot and choreographed. The CGI feels so early 2000s but that adds to its charm. Neo, Trinity and Morpheus make for a formidable trio.

I still like this 👉👈 But really, all the glossed up martial arts, the kinetic action setpieces, the cast the cast, the concept work and visual effects, that soundtrack, the omnipresent sunglasses, even the top-heavy monologuing, I dig it all more than I should I'm so happy the Wachowskis just got to do their whole damn thing
