A Bittersweet Life

I think the first half was excellent and set up a revenge that would’ve been satisfying to see through. The big flaw is that a strong enough relationship wasn’t built between Kim Sun Woo and Hee Soo for me to care that he was sort of doing this for her. Because of that, the second half is rather weak. The ending is good. But with a weak justification. It just falls flat. That being said. Like all South Korean Action films in the 2000’s it has excellent Cinematography and a soundtrack that complements the themes.

Sympa! C'est un peu comme John Wick, mais en Corée du Sud.

A Bittersweet Life

Really got going with the scene of his boss taking revenge via Moon (Kim Roi-ha with that hairstyle reminded me of Heath Ledger); that scene was superb!! My guy Kim Jee-woon may not have meant it but I get the mobster allure now. he really sold me on the aesthetic — going to get a black raincoat & umbrella, a cig and pretend I’m one of them. Both the burial and the fire; the lowest point in the hierarchy and the subsequent revenge were enjoyable. the car guys and gravediggers brought levity. The way the last guy came in for revenge only to see him on the verge of death, where shooting him would be putting him out of his misery and him just watching Seon-woo for a while lol while the latter was in his feels about Hee-soo lol *chef’s kiss* Lee Byung-hun is so good! Shoutout if you fake boxed with Seon-woo at the end. the film was exciting, stylish, well paced. Liked the use of music too! Also, there’s something about flip phones, they are hot who knows, I might become a mobster film girlie from now on
