Broken Embraces

Visually it's all there, but there isn't enough of the punch usually found in his films. There isn't enough flesh to the characters because all the flesh is focused on Penelope Cruz and Lluis Homar. There aren't enough explosives that propel the plot. Story-wise, we get the bare minimum here and it drags on for too long or takes too long to where it needs to go with a script that feels a lot looser and more of a space for Pedro to think of his own involved world in cinema, his own life, his own history. s/o to the Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown cameo and to Penelope for cosplaying Audrey Hepburn. She's incredibly stellar in this one. All glamour and grace.
