this was my first time really hearing details about this case. i have always heard people saying “free the menendez brothers” but i was never able to form my own opinion. hearing the awfulthings that their father did to them made me physically ill. it’s clear that these boys were trapped and endured severe trauma and truly believed that this was their only way out. these boys feared for their lives many times until they reached their breaking point. the system failed them. there is absolutely no reason that they should have gotten life in prison without parole. i am in no way saying that they should not be held responsible and accountable for what they did. they confessed to the crimes and both understood that they needed to serve time. but life, is not the answer. it is completely unfair the way their second trial went. every detail that explains why they committed the crimes was left out. witness testimony that was vital in the first trial was left out. there should never have been a jury that couldn’t come up a verdict to a jury that could come up with one in less than a week. i hope that there will be someone who has the ability to make this right, does the right thing and fights for these boys. they deserve to be free.
