"To tell you the truth, I'm not cut out for eating alone. Or sleeping alone or taking the bus alone. I don't like smoking alone. I'm no good on my own. I just pretend to be." As someone who has reached the age of 20, watching this is like watching myself. More precisely, after graduating from school, it's like being forced by circumstances to grow up, haha. Listening to music with earphones is not just a hobby, but more of a distraction from the pressures coming from all sides. In the end, it's all just a distraction from the empty and hollow reality of life. This film has no climax at all. It is very slow, with almost no drama. Only Yu Jinah seeks distraction from a work life that is completely at odds with her personality, and her father's life after her mother's death. Yu Jinah faces everything without emotion. She faces everything practically alone. Alone and lonely are two words that perfectly describe Yu Jinah. However, Yu Jinah is able to resolve her struggles in her own way. That gives me hope, as someone who considers her life to be my own. Every silence has a hidden meaning for me. Thank you, Hong Sung-Eun. Your film does not judge โAlonersโ for who they are, but embraces us warmly, encouraging us to become better people in the future. Everything will be alright, all my fellow Aloners.
