The White Reindeer
Finnish folk-horror fairytale set in an arctic village where either a reindeer + sled or a pair of skis is the only way to get around town. Sadly, more wolves than witches in this, but hard not to walk away impressed. Particularly loved the boisterous score that accompanied a good majority of the film—going from sweet to thunderous, almost comparable to scores appended to silent films. Makes use of the white, cold environment with some stunning shots, despite lacking the folk-horror imagery I would crave with this type of thing. Long fingernails; check. Pointy teeth; check. Would’ve at least loved to see a pointy nose, but hey, decent cackle from the witch lead!
