Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
Growing up, Harry Potter was a world that I always loved to watch. After seeing several of the films in theaters, I really started to develop a love for the films. I never really attempted to read the novels, but I loved to watch the movies. As I grew older, I started to lose interest in the films, eventually not really caring whether I saw the last films or not, which I still haven't. After a while, I thought that this franchise died down, until Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them came along. This take on the Harry Potter universe takes us away from Hogwarts and into New York City, where things are a little different than what we are used to. New characters, new creatures, and a completely new feel make this film feel fresh and new after the conclusion of the series. There were some really fun parts of the film, but there were many scenes where I found the film to be dragging some, with me losing interest. It would pick back up, but the film felt really uneven. Redmayne was fun to watch, but his accent seemed to be distracting at times, as there were times I had to carefully listen to understand exactly what he was saying. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is a fun film that feels fresh in a universe that concluded a few years ago. I'm not sure how they are going to make this into a trilogy, but it's going to be interesting to see what they end up doing. It was nice getting to see a different side of something that I loved in my childhood. Maybe it's time that I finally finish the Harry Potter franchise, just to finally say I've watched all of the films.
