such a shame that this movie didn't pull me in as much as i wanted. a gorgeous colour palette and sets, a remarkable score and angelina is just wonderful. maria callas' life is a tragic one that they portrayed so beautifully in this film, but unfortunately i found it to be a little bit boring.

“my mother made me sing. onassis forbade me to sing. and now i will sing for myself.” “my life is opera. there is no reason in opera.” what a heartbreakingly stunning film. and jolie’s performance wow wow wow, fucking incredible i wish i could give her every award imaginable.

Unbelievably slow to start but soon picks up the pace, this is similar to Jackie and Spencer in almost every way. You know what you’re getting when you watch a film by Pablo Larraín and this is no different. The story is interesting but I wish it delved deeper than it does, still a good time and worth a watch.

A Schizophrenic’s Tale Before watching the film, I knew very little about Maria Callas—just a couple of her works. And even after watching it, I still didn’t get to know her as the iconic figure she was. The screenwriters handled her story poorly, focusing almost entirely on the last year of her life and only occasionally flashing back to the past. Even then, those flashbacks were limited to her relationship with Aristotle Onassis. The most significant events of her life were left out, leaving the film without a coherent narrative. The direction was impressive, but Angelina’s performance only hit the mark halfway.

She sang from the bottom of her heart, I honestly felt touched seeing her sing like that, especially the ending really gave me goosebumps and I could hear all her feelings and depression in the last song. Angelina Jolie really potrayed Maria so well.
