the movie was so sad but the protagonist was so boring that i wasn't able to feel the sadness and ball my eyes out like i was expecting to do so.

Never Let Me Go

(digging up old reviews) a very visually attractive film; romanek’s aesthetics in never let me go reminded me of joe wright’s for pride & prejudiceand atonement. this movie made me really want to read the book since it was obvious at times that a lot of kathy’s emotions/thoughts weren’t able to be fully conveyed onscreen. i didn’t think andrew garfield was the right cast for tommy….he was way too different from the younger tommy and younger tommy had a lot more promise as a character. andrew garfield killed my interest in tommy 5 minutes in for no other reason than being too boring. keira knightley was superb as ruth—the conflicted nature/inner struggles of her character were so piquant and i loved her as much as i disliked her. the dialogues were slow and sparse throughout but it worked well for this film (although at times the film moved tooslowly for my liking). a scene that particularly stuck out to me was when they were at the diner and had no idea what to do with a menu and just all ended up ordering the same thing (but ruth tried hard to seem confident despite it all).

Never Let Me Go

Weirdly enough been my comfort movie for years. The music, the soft spoken dialogue, the cinematography. It’s just so gorgeous and may even be better than the book. Kathy’s right: we all complete.
