Diary Entry forHot Milk
emma mackey is absolutely stunning in this. the setting was beautiful and the abusive mother-daughter relationship was well done. i didn't really like the story though, i feel like the script fails to properly capture the characters, especially sofia's.

“I'm an animal in the desert. And there's no water.” I’m usually quite drawn to sensorial cinema, but in this case the experience felt too short, even without having any expectations. The film builds an arid and strange world, yet it never really offers something solid to hold on to in its defense. If I had to salvage something, it would probably be the last twenty minutes: the ending surprised me more than I expected and, although abrupt, it left me with a valuable sense of unease. In contrast, the relationship between Sofía and Ingrid never really works, the chemistry between them is practically nonexistent, and their supposed romance feels hard to believe or empathize with. I find much more potential in the mother-daughter dynamic. There, there is tension, contradiction, and an emotional weight that could have sustained the entire film. I think that is precisely what comes through in the ending, and that’s why, in the end, I ended up liking it quite a bit.
