Power Rangers

I type this a "Go Go Power Rangers" is blasting in the background. It's 5am. 'Power Rangers' was probably the best surprise of 2017 so far when it comes to movies for me. I had low expectations going in but, man. This hit me in childhood hard. I had flash back to 9 year old me standing in front of my TV and yelling "IT'S MORPHIN' TIME" at the end of every PR episode. It had some of that 90's cheese to it that made me smile and roll my eyes, it had the iconic catchphrases. And I kid you not, when the OG Power Rangers theme song blared my theater lost their collective MINDS. I've only seen that happen with superhero movies. And though nostalgia is a big factor in why I really, really, like this, it's not the only one. The acting was surprisingly??? Really good? Billy was my favorite he was the heart and soul of the team. Jason was also really good, hell everyone was. Even Cranston and Hader, who did not phone it their performances btw. The fight scenes were good, the effects were good, my only major issue is that the 2nd act drags on for too long. But overall, this was a really solid entry into what hopefully becomes a franchise. Oh, and that Tommy Oliver tease? Cruel. He was always my favorite so I can't wait to see him.

Power Rangers

One of the more surprisingly good films of the years is a film I was never going to watch. Growing up, I never watched Power Rangers. I didn't have the connection to these heroes that many others had, so I wasn't terribly interested in the film when it was released. My friend, having watched the film, told me about the film and suggested that I watch it, so I took up his suggestion and was pleasantly surprised. This new breed of action films is interesting, since the characters are actually decent and the action is great. Power Rangers managed to create human characters that many can empathize with, making the film feel much more "real" than others. The only huge complaint about the film was Elizabeth Banks, who I thought was an odd choice, who ultimately felt extremely out of place with her character. The film as a whole has a charm to it that many will love, with characters that people really can relate to. Power Rangers is a surprisingly good action film that has good representation for individuals on the spectrum, as well as being inclusive for the LGBT community. It's rare to find those two in a single film, so Power Rangers really did a fantastic job at being inclusive, making it a good film in my book.
