Really interesting seeing Alain Delon and Jean Gabin on the same side while Lino Ventura stands against them. This crime family operates like smooth criminals, and everything runs perfectly at first, until internal conflict starts to build and eventually blows everything apart. ---- Kind of felt bad for Lino Ventura, couldn’t even quit smoking with how chaotic things got, but still pulled through in the end.

A Certain Smile

Wtf is this. A terrible story from beginning to end. Their relationship feels driven purely by desire, not love, and they don’t seem to feel guilty at all. I usually love affair stories in classic Hollywood, but not this one. It moves way too fast for something that’s supposed to feel emotionally complex, and Dominique here is honestly so annoying. If I were Bertrand, I’d probably slap her before walking away. And Rossano Brazzi, you’re just a lustful old man, go away and leave Joan Fontaine to me. Last but not least, the song is beautiful. I really love A Certain Smile by Johnny Mathis, and the instrumental is genuinely haunting. It deserves a much better film than this.

Strangers When We Meet

Strangers When We Meet

I REALLY FELL IN LOVE WITH THIS. Larry (Kirk Douglas) is an architect with what seems like a happy, harmonious family, yet he suddenly finds himself drawn to the beautiful Maggie (Kim Novak), the mother of his child’s friend. They first meet at a bus stop while taking their kids to school. Sadly, Maggie is a woman trapped in an unhappy marriage. Her husband, Ken (John Bryant) gives her no emotional fulfillment, leaving her lonely and that’s when she becomes vulnerable to Larry. I know, it’s a forbidden love. At first, I really hated their relationship, especially seeing it from Larry’s side, he already has a loving family, yet he chooses to cheat. But as the story goes on, the way they build their love in secret slowly melted my heart. They feel like such a perfect match, yet they’re held back by their circumstances and responsibilities. It’s really hard to choose sides. From Ken’s perspective, I don’t feel that sorry for him because of how indifferent he is. But Eve (Barbara Rush), Larry’s wife… I really feel for her. She feels completely innocent in all of this. Even at the end, it broke me when she said, “What did I do wrong? I can’t live without you, Larry,” while he just stood there in silence after everything came out. And there’s Felix (Walter Matthau), a very important character. He’s Larry’s neighbor and the first to find out about the affair. He’s irritating, and once he realizes Larry’s situation, he even tries to flirt with Eve, which makes Larry furious. Then he says, “Tell me, architect, what makes me different from you?” Damn… that line really hits. It forces Larry to confront himself and realize how wrong he’s been. In the end, Larry and Maggie’s relationship becomes even more complicated, especially with Eve’s presence and Larry having to move to Hawaii for work. It’s heartbreaking, but maybe it’s for the best. Still… I can’t help it, I’m so emotional over their relationship. God, I’m crying. Such an underrated movie. It deserves way more recognition. I really love it.

Doesn’t this film feel so real? Especially the ending. Sometimes life really is that messed up, and there’s just no way out. I genuinely felt so sorry for them.

Really fell in love with this movie. I keep coming back to it, and I probably always will. Their chemistry, the summer in Venice, and that beautifully memorable score just live in my head. A big thanks to David Lean for this.

Wait Until I Make It

Wait Until I Make It

Ya bayangin aja, in this economy udah mah susah nyari kerja ditambah dijulidin mlu sama saudara sendiri (i can relate), sekalinya dapet kerja bukanya diapresiasi malah dicari-cari trus kekurangannya. Sejauh ini okelah dramanya, komedinya juga tipis" cocok buat tema family kayak gni. Tapi secara personal gw suka pas momen awal" dia lamar kerja interview sana-sini. Kayak sesusah itu keterima kerja wkw(ts might be me next year).

What happens when a man finally gets his anger back? Ernie Driscoll is a taxi driver and a former boxer whose life has gone nowhere. Everything starts to fall apart when he catches his wife cheating on him. But it turns out she’s just being used by her lover, treated like nothing more than a pawn. Somehow, Ernie gets dragged into the mess too, even though he just wanted to walk away and leave everything behind. Then things get worse. Ernie is accused of murdering his own wife. The only person who can clear his name is her lover, so he sets out to find him. That journey pulls him deeper into the criminal underworld, dealing with thieves and mobsters along the way. He’s also forced to involve Linda, a woman who becomes his ally after witnessing his wife’s dead body. The story itself is actually pretty simple, but the noir style keeps me locked in the whole time. I really like Ernie’s determination, especially in the final fight. In that moment, he remembers his past as a boxer, and it feels like his fighting spirit finally comes back to life. It’s not just about fighting others anymore, but also confronting the fear and trauma that made him quit in the first place.
